Medications Before Surgery: General Guidance

Prior to surgery at Nebraska Spine Hospital, each patient will have a detailed phone call with one of our nurse navigators. During this call, our nurse navigators will cover a lot of information pertaining to your medical history and upcoming surgery, including how to handle your medications before surgery. In addition, you will also receive a call from our pharmacy to verify your current medications.

Before Spine Surgery: Nurse Navigator Phone Call

Here at Nebraska Spine Hospital, we like to ensure that our patients are informed and prepared before coming in for their spine surgery. One of the ways we do that is with a pre-surgery phone call from one of our nurse navigators. These phone calls are scheduled in advance and generally last 45-60 minutes. We recommend that patients have a piece of paper available to take notes during this call.

Degenerative Scoliosis 101

While the most common type of scoliosis occurs in adolescents, the risk of scoliosis doesn’t completely go away. Degenerative scoliosis occurs when there is significant degeneration of the facet joints and intervertebral discs in your spine. This degeneration happens over time and can begin as young as 40 but is most common in adults 65 and older.
