Our primary goal here at Nebraska Spine Hospital is to provide each and every patient with the best care possible. We take great care in monitoring our patients before, during, and after their stay with us. One way in which we go above and beyond for our patients is informing them of what to expect at each step of the process, including the follow-up appointment after spine surgery. Following your discharge from Nebraska Spine Hospital, you can expect to receive several phone calls and have a follow-up appointment scheduled.

Phone Calls After Spine Surgery

You will receive several phone calls after being discharged from Nebraska Spine Hospital. Your first call will come within 3 days of your discharge and will be made by a member of our nursing staff. You will then receive a call from your surgeon 2 weeks after your discharge. Around one month following your discharge, you will receive one more call from a member of our nursing staff.

During these calls, we will check in to learn more about your post-operative progress, any medical incidents or hospitalizations, physical activity, and overall well-being. These calls are more than just an opportunity to reconnect, they allow us to track patient experiences and readmissions. This information is used for continuous improvement processes for patient experience and successful patient outcomes.

Follow-Up Appointment After Spine Surgery

Most follow-up appointments occur 6 weeks after discharge. The Nurse Navigator will arrange the appointment with either your primary care provider or the surgeon. She will also prepare a report to provide details of your surgery, recovery and other important information including changes in medications, lab results, discharge instructions and consults.

Prior to the follow-up appointment, most patients are instructed to try to walk about a mile each day to aid in their recovery. At the follow-up appointment, any further physical therapy instructions will be given. Commonly, patients are shown minor stretches and strengthening exercises to aid in their recovery.
